NSW Selective Test Scores: What Mark Does Your Child Need?

Understanding Selective Scores

The NSW Selective test doesn't publish official cutoff scores. However, based on community data and school placements:

Estimated Score Ranges

Score RangeWhat It Means

90%+Competitive for top-tier schools (Sydney Girls/Boys, James Ruse) 80-89%Competitive for most fully selective schools 70-79%Competitive for partially selective schools Below 70%May need to improve for selective placement

What Most Parents Miss

A score of 75% could mean:

  • • Scenario A: Solid knowledge, consistent performance — needs more practice volume
  • • Scenario B: 85% capability, but lost 10% to panic and time management
  • These two students need completely different preparation strategies. Practice papers fix Scenario A. Behaviour correction fixes Scenario B.
